Well I suppose it's time to update seeing as my last one was two years ago. I cannot think of a better time to do it than when I'm working. Yes, I'm being lazy, and I should probably be fired, but one can only keep his sanity so long when there's little more to do than wait for customers.
So what's been happening since my last update? Well a lot, actually, but only a few things worth talking about. I graduated in april from Post-Secondary as.. well, I can't really say what I am. To the industry, I would likely be called a "Video Editor" or if I stretched it, a "Motion Graphic Artist". But in my opinion, I have little to show for it right now. For the passed four months I have been exploring opportunities in a variety of artistic fields, however, I'm having a great deal of trouble deciding which one I wish to commit to.
A lot of people can give straight answers when a person asks them what they want to be. For me, it's not so much what I want to be, but what i wish to do. as I mentioned before in previous rants, I have a strong passion for the arts as it conveys both feeling and meaning. It is our only means of funneling our emotions and opinions, so we can share them with people around the world. All I want out of life is to make people, well, feel. I just don't know how to go about doing it yet.
Writing and editing videos has a lot of personal "moments" that people can relate to . The passion of love, the pain of loss, the joy of humor, and the awkwardness of embarrassment. It's these emotions that make characters so engaging, and many people actually feel some sort of bond to them. How many of you have felt like you lost a friend at the end of a good story? I know I have.~
Music at the of the day all boils down to math; but I'm not thinking about how many bars there are when I'm listening to 'Moonlight Sonata'. Music paints pictures in for people based on patterns, chords, and lyrics which helps inspiration flow through. Not everyone has the same tastes in music, but the effect it has on people is all the same. Minor makes you sad, and Major makes you happy. You aren't just playing and instrument, you are playing with human emotions.
Art, Photography, and Cinematography all carry very similar rules, and a lot of feeling along with them. One of the best parts about it, is that only other artists know why it's happening. It's amazing how composition can make people feel anything from discomfort, to absolute joy. Combine that with all the other elements of design, and you have yourself a smorgasbord of feelings. What could be more rewarding than that?
I have all these interests, but not enough time to practice all of them. They not only carry the raw emotion for other to pickup on, but each artistic decision has a sense of 'why'. Those who choose to look into anything in the arts will find reasons behind each and every little detail. The artist chose red, because red ties with anger and passion. 3/4 through the song it changes to major to give a sense of pleasant conclusion. a writer made this story to show that even if you lose someone close, life will still go on. Whatever reasons why we strive for something in art, other people will at least find their own interpretation, and hopefully change their lives for the better.
I should really get back to work (I am so fired).
